What We Have In Our Collection
The SHS Library and Archives hold historical materials related to Shasta County as well as reference materials for Northern California and the State of California. Our Library is a non-lending library where you will find materials such as reference books, yearbooks, telephone books and more available for your research. Access is to our archive materials is available by advance notice. Our Curator & Visitors Services Manager and Collections Manager will look through our archival collection to see what we have that fits into your request. Materials will be pulled by staff and made available to you. Some restrictions do apply. Archival materials include maps, business records, personal correspondence, oral histories, newspapers and more.
How To Make A Research Request
If you are unable to visit us in person, a written request may be made via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by regular mail 1449 Market St., Redding, CA 96001 Attention: Curator & Visitor Services Manager. Research requests are normally answered within two to three weeks but may vary depending upon the request.
Members may visit our library and request assistance from our Curator & Visitor Services Manager free of charge.
Visits to the Society are free of charge. If our Curator & Visitor Services Manager is able to answer your question(s) in less than 15 minutes the assistance is free of charge. For use of our library and assistance from our Curator & Visitor Services Manager that exceed 15 minutes there is a fee of $10 per hour.
