Second Saturday Story Time

The Shasta Historical Society hosts a history themed story time, on Facebook on the second Saturday of each month. About 1/2 hour in length, it is appropriate for children ten and under, but all children are welcome. This month’s selection, The Story of Ruby Bridges by Robert Coles, will be read by Society Intern, Kelsey Farquhar. In 1960 six-year-old Ruby Bridges and her family moved from Mississippi to New Orleans in search of a better life. When a judge orders Ruby to attend first grade at William Frantz Elementary, an all-white school, Ruby must face angry mobs of parents who refuse to send their children to school with her.
